Liz Truss has said she would get Northern Ireland’s different political leaders to form a Government together if made prime minister.

Asked if she would get Sinn Fein and the DUP into government together in Northern Ireland, Ms Truss said: “The answer is yes.”

She also went on to add: “But we do need to resolve the issue with the Northern Ireland Protocol, because at the moment what the Protocol is causing is, it is causing a feeling of unfairness between the two communities in Northern Ireland because it is very hard.

“I know there are Scottish businesses that have stopped sending goods to Northern Ireland because of the bureaucracy and the paperwork.”

“We need to sort that out, we need to create the green and the red channel and we also need to make sure that the people of Northern Ireland are able to benefit from the same tax rates as the people of Great Britain.

“It is understandable that people feel they are not being treated as part of the United Kingdom because of the way the Northern Ireland Protocol is operating.”
